What if the very thing that’s sabotaging your thriving once helped you to survive?
About Me
Hi, I’m Derian Julihn (he/him/his). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) practicing in Langley. I have almost 20 years of experience supporting vulnerable youth and adults. I specialize in working with those who suffer from anxiety, depression, shame, self-acceptance, addiction, trauma, abuse, and intrusive thoughts. I bring a unique mixture of courage, empathy, knowledge, and humour to my clients.
Person-Centred
I am passionate about working together to co-create a plan based on your specific needs, goals, and strengths. In practical terms, this looks a little like a choose your own adventure book where you pick the destination and then I lay out multiple paths for how we get there. The therapies I use are designed to empower and focuses on overcoming the stigma and blame that can be placed on us when we suffer and struggle in our mental health.
Integrative
I approach therapy from a holistic perspective, drawing on the best of evidence-based counselling techniques and theories such as:
- Neuroscience
- Attachment Theory
- Intersectionality
- Anti-Oppression
- Internal Family Systems
- Observe & Experiential Integration
- Narrative Therapy
- Somatic Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
- Self-Compassion
- Mindfulness
Trauma-Informed
Talk therapy is a top-down approach that focuses on changing our thoughts and behaviours which in order to influence our feelings and body. Trauma therapies take a bottom-up approach—by connecting us to and processing our body and emotions allows our thoughts and behaviours to transform and integrate.
I believe that healing trauma involves at least three components:
1) Helping our nervous system to find it’s calm grounded state.
2) Helping our brain integrate disturbing memories.
3) Finding compassion for the self-sabotaging ways we adopted survive.
